FAQ

Are you open every day?

No, we are open only two days a week. Sundays 1 – 4 pm and Wednesday evenings 6 – 9 pm. Bike Zone is a community staffed bike shop with volunteers having regular jobs, school, and family. We cannot guarantee we can be open if a family emergency arises for any volunteers.

Are you open on holidays?

We endeavour to be open on all scheduled days, even if it is a holiday, but we cannot guarantee this if we are unable to have enough volunteers to open.

Are you open in the off-season, like winter?

Yes, we are open all year long. Winter is a very good time to work on your bike since there is usually no waiting and more volunteers to assist.

I don’t know anything about fixing bikes. Can you still help me?

Certainly! Come on down, and we’ll get you up and running.

Do I need to know how to fix my bicycle?

No, we will help and work with you to repair your bike.

Do you repair e-bikes?

Sorry, no. We do not stock any e-bike parts, and for safety reasons we do not repair e-bikes.

Will you fix my bike for me?

No, we will work with you to repair your bike. If that does not work for you, you may certainly take your bike to any commercial bike store in Winnipeg. We are not a full-service bicycle repair shop and do not stock new bike parts.

Will you fix it for me if I donate money or parts as trade?

I’m afraid not, sorry.

Can I trade my bike or bike parts for a bike that fits or works better for me?

No. There are many concerns about bike theft and people wanting to exchange or launder stolen bikes. To avoid any problems, we do not allow any bikes that are spray-painted over, have their serial numbers ground off or altered, or appear to be stolen.

Does Bike Zone sell bikes to the public?

Yes, we have a small selection of bikes for sale. The bikes may have scratches or show wear, but are in working order. The type and size of bikes available change all the time. You will have to come down to see what we have for sale. Proceeds from bike sales go towards running the shop.

Does Bike Zone offer workshops or courses?

Yes, we normally offer a set of 5 different evening courses during the wintertime. This is contingent on having enough instructors to offer the courses. Usually there is a waiting list to attend these courses.

I want to contribute to your community bike shop with a donation. When can I drop off my donation?

Any donation will be accepted during our regularly scheduled shop days: Sundays and Wednesdays. Please do not leave donations outside on any other day of the week. Donated bikes are fixed for community programs, sold, or stripped for parts to help others keep their bikes on the road.

What items will you accept for donation?

We appreciate all donations; they help with the functioning of our community bike shop. We accept the following:

  • Bikes
  • Tools (metric wrenches, adjustable wrenches, hammers, bike tools, etc)
  • Garbage bags
  • Cotton rags
  • Hand and dish soap
